I have been so busy these days that I havent requested a book through goodreads in a long time, but when I saw this book up for review I had to read it. I soon as I started reading I was hooked. I am a big fairy tale kind of girl, espically if there is some twits.
The main character is Olive the last of the Winnowwood and she is determined to stay a Winnowwood, she has refused to give up her powers like so many before her and even her mother and sister have given up their powers to be beautiful. While Olive is very powerful she is also very ugly, the more she uses her power the uglier she becomes. Even though she is saddened about being ugly she stays strong within. She loves her friends the animals so loyal to her.
She really gave it all, even while her father is so cruel to her she is there to save him and his kingdom.
This story was so very well written, a very refreshing read. Henderson Smith showed us something powerful that beauty is not what is on the outside but what is within ourselves. Olive may have been ugly on the outside but she was so beautiful within.
I loved that we did not get your regular main character that she was different. Then there is Bart and from the start you cant help but like him and Bart wasnt you regular guy either he was not your good looking guy, but he was a great guy, he saw the beauty within Olive and stood by her all the way.
Omg!! and that ending.....
I loved it. I actually guessed what was going to happened, but I loved it. Thank you again!!!

I have read Fire country and Moon Dwellers still trying to finish both series, but I loved both books, now David gives us another great series to read.
We are introduced to Rhett a high school student, he is nerdy, and on the football team. He is a sweet teddy bear of a guy, but gets bullied a lot, luckily he has his bestfriend Xave to defend him, both of them growing up in foster care. Rhett also has a girlfriend Beth, great gal, all three very close.
There has been news that witches and warlocks are real and are being put to death. Rhett is happy with his foster family and how things are going for him, then in one night everything is taken from him when the witches and warlocks attack back and we have a Witch Apocalypse.
Rhett is saved that night by his neighbor Mr. Jackson and he trains Rhett how to defend himself against the witches. But Mr. Jackson has a lot of secrets and when Rhett finally pushes and gets some answers, he wasn't expecting that and decides to go on his own to get his revenge on the Necromancers the group of witches that killed his family and friends. On his journey he happens finds Laney and her younger sister Trish, both hiding out in a restaurant.
I loved Laney she is a smart mouth, who doesn't back down. She really cares for her sister and later for Rhett. There is Hex the dog and what a great companion he is. We really see Rhett change from how he was in the beginning before he lost everything, he hated violence, but now he is hard and can kick some serious butt. But he wasn't afraid to break down and have a good cry either.
So toward the end of the book we get some big shockers, some things are revealed!!!
We get a great start to a new series, very well written, great action, I was never bored. If you are fan of the Walking Dead like me :) then this book is right up your alley.
