Chupacabra series by Michael Hebler, Halloween edition

In celebration of Halloween I bring you guys a very good, gory, scary, keep you on your toes series. Just finished another incredible read, Legend of the Chupacabra by Michael Hebler the third book in the Chupacabra series. This is more in the  Horror genre, so if your not a big fan of horror you might get scared, but I do not mind a bit of horror and gore and I was pretty much hooked

I have always been intrigued about the Chupacabra. I 'am also posting my older reviews on the first two books. Enjoy!!!!

Book 1

Post Civil War. Families move west to begin rich new lives, only some never make it. There is a creature that lurks in the vast open deserts of the west. It can only survive on blood and, although it prefers to prey on the weak and young, it will slaughter anyone or anything, once provoked. It is unnatural, deceptive, and difficult to kill. Word about the existence of this elusive beast has not spread since anyone who has crossed paths with it did not live long enough to tell of their account. Night of the Chupacabra is one man’s journey to reunite with his missing family, while the lethal creature that separated them, the mysterious and ravenous chupacabra, is never far behind.

Night of the Chupacabra is not only a gruesome regale of carnage, but a unique combination of science fiction bloodshed with a more poignant tale of lost love set against a Western backdrop. Night of the Chupacabra is an unflinching look at the impossible choices made for family, while knowing the consequences will ultimately lead to a fate worse than death.

Review:

When I saw the title of this book it sparked my interest, This isn't my usual genre, but I've heard stories of the chupacabra and said why not. This book did not let me down, we meet Drake and his family traveling to San Francisco after the Civil War, when they are attacked by the chupacabra. Drake loses his wife and daughter and is left badly scarred and unrecognizable.

This book was pretty fast paced and I was never bored, lots of action, lots of gun fighting. I liked the twist on the chupacabra here, we learn how the chupacabra came to be. Drake has to deal with a lot, who also discovers a lot in the small town he ends up at. The town is not very welcoming and dislike strangers, the sheriff was something else. I was a little sad with the ending, after everything Drake went through and now that. But overall great story. Thanks again.

Book 2

They never thought their luck would be their curse. In the months following the onslaught, the extraordinary survivors continue to know no peace, as they are haunted by signs that the relentless creature remains on their trail. However, this fight will be better matched, now that they’ve discovered an advantage that will help protect them from the monster’s bloodthirsty lust. But once faced with the decision to kill the beast, the choice will not come lightly since it is still unclear which loved one the chupacabra possesses.

This is the second installment in the Chupacabra series and it did not disappoint. This one continues on with Suzanne and Jessie barley escaping the Chupacabra, both wondering who is the Chupacabra now if its Jessie's father or uncle. Suzanne decides that she can not raise Jessie and hands her over to another family to raise her. Of course Jessie doesn't want this and is upset with Suzanne.

I really enjoyed reading about these two characters in this book. Both have suffered greatly being on their own. Things do not seem to be getting any better for them apart or together. We get introduced to a new group of characters some good and some not. I really liked James and Dale, I was hoping more of James and Suzanne.

The romantic in me wants some more romance in a Western Horror book. I cant help it, Suzanne deserves her happy ending. We start this see this motherly side to Suzanne and she will probably end up taking on the job of raising Jessie.

We get some good interaction with the Chupacabra, not as much as in the first book, he seemed different in this book for some reason. We do discover some new interesting news on the Chupacabra. The ending was sad again for me in this book. But thanks again. Still reading the third installment and will be posting my review on that one too. Cant wait to find out how it all ends :)

Book 3:

Inside a small village within the Great Plains of Montana, a ritual initiated in blood will be performed. This ceremony has been executed only once before and will mark a rite of honor and justice. Commonly, the Assiniboine are a harmonious people with strong pride and passions, but turn to the spirits for vengeance when wronged. The tribe’s chief will summon the Great Spirit on behalf of his people, for no earthly man can make evil suffer
like a greater evil.

Legend of the Chupacabra finds Jessie and Suzanne living peacefully in Portland, Oregon, six years after they believed to have put an end to the curse of the chupacabra. But the women
come to learn of their failure and the futility of their sacrifices when a remarkable reunion brings horror back into their lives; only this time, what they face will be unlike any creature they've encountered. Legend of the Chupacabra marks the end of a trilogy but the continuation of a saga that will leave this moment of history drenched in blood.

Review:

This third installment starts six years later after Suzanne and Jessie again barley escaping and believing the chupacabra is dead. Now living in Portland both have grown very close. Suzanne now a teacher and Jessie working at a saloon, Jessie is still that same loud mouth tough girl from before, she hasn't changed one bit.

People start disappearing and Jessie starts to get the feeling that maybe the creature is back, then someone from their past comes into the saloon one night. Danny has traveled to Portland and is surprised to find Jessie and Suzanne, but Danny is hiding some very big secrets and all hell breaks loose in Portland.

We are also take a look into the summoning of this great spirit and we are introduced to another type of Chupacabra and one girl, who I felt just suffered so much to help her family too.

We get to find out even more on the Chupacabra on how it came to be and why it could be summoned. A lot of people died during this book and of course I was prepared for this, but through out this series I held on the hope that Suzanne, poor sweet Suzanne would at least get some sort of a happy ending and so when her time finally came I was shocked to say the least.

I really enjoyed this book, it was scary, gory with twits and turns, Michael Hebler gave us one great story and for that I thank you

And that ending WOW!!! Not expecting that. Cant wait to see want happens with Jessie and Danny in the next book. Would like to Thank Michael Hebler for gifting me these books for a honest review!!!!!
